Elon Musk has invested heavily in the November U.S. midterm elections, marking his full return to Trump's camp after experiencing more than a year of political rift.

According to an exclusive report by The New York Times, Musk has become the largest donor supporting the Republican Party to maintain control of Congress in the November elections. The world's richest man has spent over $275 million in recent months, with some funds yet to be formally disclosed in campaign finance records.
On Monday, a spokesperson confirmed the aforementioned donations. Currently, the Republican Party is trying to salvage multiple struggling campaigns for both the House and Senate.
Insiders revealed that Musk donated $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund this summer, a primary political action committee supporting Republican Senate candidates. Meanwhile, he also injected tens of millions of dollars into his own political action committee. Previously, he had spent nearly $300 million to help Trump secure reelection in the 2024 presidential election.
These massive funds further expand the Republican Party's already significant financial advantage. Federal documents show that as of the end of August this year, the Republican committees and Trump’s MAGA Inc. had raised over $1.1 billion, while the Democratic fundraising totaled only about $600 million.
The current election landscape is challenging for the Republicans, as Trump's polling data has hit historic lows, casting a shadow over the party's electoral prospects.
Outside observers broadly expect the Democrats to regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the election on November 3rd. The Senate race controlled by the Republicans is viewed as uncertain in terms of outcome.
To reverse the situation, Musk has launched extensive campaign advertising through his political action committee. The organization has funded targeted texts, digital, and print advertisements for Senate campaigns in Michigan, Alaska, Ohio, Iowa, Texas, Maine, and New Hampshire. At least a dozen highly contested House seats have also become key targets for this organization.
The spending strategy of Musk's political action committee largely aligns with that of the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc., which has over $400 million in campaign reserves.
Andrew Romeo, a spokesperson for Musk's political action committee, publicly articulated the organization's political appeal and warning, resonating with the core campaign messages of the Republican Party. He stated, "If the Democrats control Washington in November and win key gubernatorial and attorney general elections, the U.S. risks becoming a socialist, woke, and borderless nation."
He further added that these substantial investments allow Republican institutions to communicate their message and give Republicans a fighting chance to rewrite history.
Business Interests Intertwined, Musk Returns to the MAGA Camp
This substantial political donation marks Musk's return to the Make America Great Again (MAGA) political camp. Just over a year ago, he had a fierce conflict with Trump, even threatening to fund a third party to challenge the Republican position.
This turmoil dates back to June 2025, when the billionaire severed ties with Trump over landmark tax and spending legislation. At that time, Musk was leading the so-called Department of Government Efficiency and used this as a justification to cut thousands of federal government jobs. He publicly denounced the tax expenditure bill as an "outrageous, politically-divided congressional spending bill." During the intensifying conflict, Musk even suggested a link between Trump and the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Due to external associations with the Trump administration, Tesla's sales appeared to have been negatively affected, leading Musk to vow not to engage in frontline politics.
However, in recent months, their relationship has seen a sharp turn and repair. Musk was not only invited to dinner at the White House but was also awarded the National Medal of Science by Trump last week.
As a further manifestation of the thawing relations, he has been appointed to jointly lead a critical review on the modernization of the Pentagon.
Musk's intricate connections with Washington remain heavily influenced by his vast business empire.
As the head of Tesla and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX), his companies hold billions of dollars in U.S. government contracts and their business interests are currently under federal scrutiny.
Last week, SpaceX announced that it is acquiring related radio frequency licenses. This crucial business move must receive formal approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) under the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI is also one of the signatories of a White House agreement. According to the agreement, leading AI companies, including xAI, must agree to third-party audits of their AI models.
