The loudest message comes from the social end, while the quietest group of numbers comes from the market. The degree of dispersion has not disappeared; it has moved below the top 50.
Written by: Alice Liu, Head of Research at CoinMarketCap
Data as of October 14, 2026, 13:21 (Beijing Time, 05:21 UTC). All data in this article comes from CoinMarketCap; the Fear and Greed Index, Altcoin Season Index, Community Hot List, Narrative Rotation, and Breakout Scanner are its own readings and will not be marked separately in the text.
Bitcoin is priced at $83,449, down 0.18% in 24 hours and down 0.87% over seven days. The total cryptocurrency market cap is $2.80 trillion, down 3.8% over seven days. The U.S. CPI for September will be announced at 20:30 tonight. On the market waiting for this number, the largest assets have hardly moved.
Meanwhile, the loudest message from the social end states that the bull market has begun.
1. The Loudest Voice, The Quietest Market
In the past 36 hours, Michael Saylor has dominated crypto social media. "The bear is under control" was the post with the most likes among all accounts we track, with 7,271 likes. A news aggregator’s clip stating "This is the beginning of the bull market" got 4,476 likes; he garnered 2,344 and 3,595 likes from two appearances on Bloomberg and the World Bank, respectively.
The opposing side cites numbers, not likes. A market maker wrote that crypto "is losing liquidity support," receiving 1,461 exposures. An on-chain account tracked seven days of ETF outflows: $687 million from Bitcoin funds and $542 million from Ethereum funds, with only 142 likes. There are also two highly viewed posts in the community: one with 88,500 views, specifically naming $80,108 as the determining downside level; the other with 54,600 views, calling $87,300 a local top, suggesting a bigger picture at $75,000.
These are social data, not market data. The market side is much quieter.
The average change in the top 50 over 24 hours is -1.03%, with a median of -0.87%. Excluding stablecoins and gold tokens, the standard deviation of 38 names is only 2.25 points. The outperforming line is drawn at +6.97%, while the strongest performer of the day, Monero, is only at +3.78%, falling over three points short. There are none below the underperforming line of -9.03%.
In the last report on Monday, the standard deviation was 3.42 points, with an average of +3.55%, and two names surpassed the outperforming line. Two days later, there were none.
Among the weakest, one name is noteworthy: NEAR, which fell 5.62% that day, after leading with a 12.42% rise on Monday. In the same basket, MemeCore dropped 7.38%, Quant fell 6.88%, Ondo declined 4.13%, and Polkadot dropped 3.86%.
Judging the bull market is a prediction, and this article does not make predictions. What can be verified is that today, no significant market cap asset is moving.
2. Dispersion Has Not Disappeared; It Has Moved Below
Shifting the window down a notch, the situation is entirely different.
The five most viewed tokens on the Community Hot List saw daily gains ranging from 11% to 107%. Bitway increased by 49.0%, ranking 201. Optimism rose by 11.2%. The rest are XDP, PPOLY, and Gains Network with a 107.4% increase.
Figure 1: The top 50 are all static, while the top five on the community list range from 11% to 107%. A comparison of daily increases, in percentage units.
The one highlighted by our system is Basic Attention Token. It tops the perpetual scanner with an anomaly score of 90, categorized under "squeeze," and is also first on the candidate list for the daily overview.
BAT is priced at $0.2016, up 15.6% for the day and 90.3% over seven days, ranking 113. It is mapped to the category of AI and big data, which itself is declining: market cap -1.99%, trading volume -26%, median peers down -1.87% for the day and -4.0% over seven days. The difference reveals BAT's excess at 17.5 and 94.3 points, classified as consistently outperforming. The 24-hour trading volume is $159 million, equivalent to 53% of its $302 million market cap.
The catalysts section is empty. There have been no official announcements or product updates in three days, and no discussions have been found on social media.
The drive is all on the perpetual side. Open contracts total $29.6 million, accounting for 9.81% of the market cap, with a 14-day increase of 536% and a 30-day increase of 787%. Funding rates are -0.2135%, settled every 8 hours, categorized as “extreme negative value” and “short crowding.” Order flows for spot and futures align and move upward simultaneously, indicating shorts are paying against a spot buying order.
The three-day heatmap shows the heaviest concentration beneath the current price at $0.1892, which is 6.2% lower, while the upper level at $0.2055, only 1.9% higher, is much smaller. The scanner left a note that this level of crowding "could lead to severe reverse liquidations," counting both directions. I agree with this suggestion and would add one: the pool below is much heavier than above, so on the side of reverse liquidation, the odds are not symmetric.
The same batch of scanners also picked out two others. Travala rose 15.5%, with a 144% increase in volume; the catalyst is verifiable, as it is utilizing Binance's x402 smart payment standard for hotel bookings. Gains Network surged by 105.8%, with a 3,483% increase in volume, having the highest technical score but lacking a catalyst. Bitway appears on both watchlists, with its 24-hour positions increasing by 28%, and there are posts in the community mentioning its exchange deposits are rising.
Money has not left the market. It has simply moved away from the top 50.
3. Quantum Week: The Real Question is Who Holds the Coins
In 48 hours, three similar events unfolded.
Coinbase announced its technical priorities for Bitcoin's post-quantum migration, consisting of four items: flexible output designs like BIP-360, phased protection for active wallets, a stateless signature option, and multi-party computations compatible with custodianship. It has characterized this as a multi-year migration, asserting that now is the time to begin. The core developers of Sui announced they have completed the first native quantum-resistant transaction on a development network, with the mainnet targeted for the first quarter of 2027. In the community, a post with 12,000 views relayed an Ethereum researcher's opinion that AI-accelerated mathematics might threaten ECDSA signatures sooner than quantum hardware. That post suggested large holders move coins to addresses that have never exposed their public keys.
Additionally, there was a third-party "quantum doomsday clock" setting a risk date in March 2028. That’s a model, not a timetable.
All of the above are statements and reports that this article has not independently verified. What can be verified is another question: if migration occurs, whose hands are the coins in.
A total of 15 exchanges hold 2,446,400 Bitcoin. Coinbase alone holds 838,151, accounting for 34.3%. Binance holds 659,568, or 27.0%. Bitfinex has 427,360, making up 17.5%. The top three collectively hold 78.7%.
Figure 2: The top three exchanges hold 78.7% of the tracked Bitcoin. Distribution of Bitcoin reserves among 15 exchanges, measured in tens of thousands.
When factoring in the $109 billion assets of the U.S. spot ETF, most of which are held by the same institutions.
Thus, the actual significance of this discussion is straightforward: a considerable portion of Bitcoin that needs to be transferred to quantum-resistant addresses is controlled by a few institutions, which can migrate according to their own plans.
What cannot be moved is another portion. Dormant and lost supply, which Coinbase clearly excludes in their filings, and we lack any data to quantify it. This is a question I cannot answer in this issue, and it happens to be the most risky part of this discussion.
The reserves themselves are also fluctuating. In 30 days, the 15 exchanges combined reduced their holdings by 29,503, a decline of 1.19%, while prices increased by 7.8% during the same period. Nine experienced outflows, while six had inflows. Binance alone decreased by 23,237, down 3.4%, accounting for nearly 80% of the total decline. Bitfinex, on the other hand, increased by 7,084, up 1.69%. This 30-day change falls in the 36th percentile of historical data, indicating the pressure reading is "balanced, low." Coins are moving out from the largest offshore exchange at a steady, not frantic, pace.
4. In the Depths of the Market: 6 Details
Positions, capital flow, and cross-asset data as of October 14, 05:21 UTC.
- The rails rose, but the tokens did not. Ethereum's DEX daily trading volume was $1.281 billion, exceeding the 30-day baseline by 11.6%, while on the previous Monday it was below the baseline by 48%. Ether is priced at $2,505.39, down 4.12% over seven days, with its market cap share falling from 11.31% a week ago to 10.91%, while Ethereum ETF assets remain at $14.6 billion. DeFi is one of the seven categories that rose among 26, up 6.0%, but not the two largest components: Uniswap decreased by 8.8% over seven days, and Aave fell by 7.8%. Buying interest is evident in smaller names, such as Injective, which rose 9.8% over seven days.
- 30% of the community hot list consists of tokenized stocks. Of the 100 most viewed tokens, about 30 are tokenized versions of Nvidia, Alphabet, Meta, SPY, and QQQ. The institutional side was also active that week. Citadel Securities and BNY Mellon completed a funding round using tokenized U.S. Treasuries as collateral. Federated Hermes plans to issue the first batch of tokenized fund shares through traditional brokerages in early 2027, while Interactive Brokers launched Ethereum staking. The retail and institutional versions of the same story emerged in the same week.
- The "yearly high" from Monday now requires a question mark. The altcoin season index has dropped 11 points in two days, from 66 on Monday to 55 today, marked as "transitional." However, the data notes in this report indicate that the same data source recorded this year's high at 64 on September 27, conflicting with Monday's 66. I cannot determine which one is correct, so Monday's statement of "yearly high" should be reduced a tier and taken as a high for the month instead. The drop of 11 points in two days is unaffected.
- The strongest name emerged from short covering. Monero is priced at $555.12, up 3.78% for the day, making it the strongest among the top 50. In three days, the only official activity was on October 13, when v0.18.5.3 of the client was released, a fix version recommending all users upgrade, with no protocol changes, collaborations, or roadmap updates. The determination is that spot trading is dominant, with perpetual positions accounting for only 0.75% of the market cap. Over 14 days, the price rose by 2.2%, while positions fell by 10.4%, indicating short covering. There is no discussion on social media regarding it. Monero is the only privacy coin among the five popular categories that rose that day, up 6.45%, with a market cap of $34.8 billion, and a 30-day increase of 13.3%.
- The category with the most authors is experiencing a decline. The 2017/18 altcoin season category has 41 independent authors, the most on the list, down 0.99% over seven days, primarily dragged down by XRP, priced at $1.37, which fell 6.7% over seven days. Layer 1 has 38 authors and decreased by 1.58% over seven days. The Robinhood meme coin category ranks first, with an increase of 13.9% for the day, but this figure comes from a micro-cap component, not breadth. The heat and prices among the leading names are generally not synchronized.
- Three rejected entries. The energy category printed a seven-day increase of 427,769%, with a market cap of only $56 million, excluded for not meeting the $100 million threshold. Long Ecosystem rose by 35.8% to $146 million, also excluded. Ansem Cat from the Robinhood meme coin category rose 262,369% over seven days, being a single micro-cap component. None of these three entries will be included in any judgment of this article.
Data Snapshot

What to Watch Next (Beijing Time)
- October 14 (Wednesday) 17:40 and 20:30: Federal Reserve Governor Bowman speaks, followed by the September U.S. CPI. Market expectations year-over-year are 3.6%, up from last month’s 3.4%. Core at 2.5%, compared to 2.4% last month. Overall month-over-month at 0.6%, up from last month’s 0.4%. Wednesday's ETF flow will help clarify whether Tuesday's $175.7 million was a shift or a one-day event.
- October 15 (Thursday) 20:30: September PPI (expected year-over-year at 5.3%, previous value 5.4%, core at 4.4%), retail sales (expected month-over-month at 0.3%, previous value 1.2%), initial jobless claims (expected at 200,000), and Philadelphia Fed Index (expected at 28.4, previous value at 37.8), all scheduled within the same window.
- October 16 (Friday): Watch whether the BAT’s -0.21% funding rate returns to normal or directly reverses liquidation. It currently has the highest crowding on the perpetual scanner.
- October 17 (Saturday): The FOMC pre-meeting silence period begins, with meetings scheduled for October 27 to 28. The minutes from the September meeting have already suggested another rate hike, but no timetable has been given.
- October 21 (Wednesday) around 22:50: The Alpenglow consensus upgrade plan for Solana goes live on the mainnet. The Solana narrative category has seen a 7.1% drop this week, ranking third from the bottom, with SOL priced at $107.22, down 9.45% over seven days. Additionally, community posts indicate that Zcash's network upgrade testnet review is set for October 20, with a mainnet target of November 5; this date is yet to be verified.
Conclusion
Today's market is split into two layers, with contrasting temperatures. Supporting this assertion are two sets of readings. The top 50 recorded a 24-hour average of -1.03%, with a standard deviation of 2.25 points, with no names exceeding the outperforming line of +6.97%. The top five on the community hot list rose between 11% to 107%, with BAT's perpetual positions up 536% over 14 days. Once the standard deviation of the top 50 returns to above 3 points, this statement will need a rewrite.
The highlighted name has no verifiable reasoning. BAT has had no official announcements for three days, no discussions on social media, while the funding rate stands at -0.2135%, with shorts paying against spot trades. This structure allows movements in both directions, but the pool below is much heavier than above.
The real message of Quantum Week does not reside in the technical pathway. Among the 15 exchanges, the top three hold 78.7% of the tracked Bitcoin, with Coinbase alone holding 34.3%. When migration is necessary, the list is very short.
Today, two lists are running concurrently. The one for the top 50 has no names breaching the outperforming line, while the community list saw rises up to 107%, with only one of the highest gainers able to cite a catalyst.
