.@CNN @MSNBC @CNBC @CBSNews @ABC @FoxNews @FoxBusiness @NBCNews @NBC10Boston @wbz and all other major media outlets: I see you all covering stories about the trauma and stress federal employees are facing over an email asking them to list out in bullet form what they worked on during the last week. Lawsuits have even been filed over the outrage caused by @realDonaldTrump implementing @elonmusk’s email idea. Now I can understand a federal worker thinking to him or herself: “Who tf does Elon think he is” or “f***k Elon” or even “f***k Trump.” But it’s a damn email. People have the right to find the email annoying. Having the reaction of why the hell do I have to answer to Elon Musk is fair. But at the end of the day, it’s just an email asking what was accomplished or worked on recently. Emails like the one in question happen every single day in the real world. As an employer, I’ve sent similar emails myself, especially when workers work remotely from home. Sometimes you send an email like this one to make sure people are reading their work emails. While federal employees are filing suit and being interviewed about their outrage, Southwests Airlines laid off 1,750 employees - 15% of its corporate staff. JP Morgan, Starbucks, Meta, Microsoft and many other companies have announced permanent layoffs. People are losing their jobs and livelihood. By the way, the average federal employee salary is around 106,000 while the average salary in the private sector is around 69,000. And the benefits (medical, dental, vacation time, etc) provided to federal employees is significantly more generous than in the private sector. Maybe some perspective is being missed here.
