21 employees of the US government's Efficiency Department collectively resign, refusing to use their technical expertise to 'dismantle critical public services'

On February 26th, according to Southeast Morning Post, 21 staff members of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk resigned collectively on February 25th local time. In a joint resignation letter, they refused to use their technical expertise to "dismantle critical public services" and accused many of the people recruited by Musk of being "political thinkers" who lacked the skills or experience needed to complete their work tasks. Meanwhile, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on February 25th that recently fired federal workers are welcome to apply for state government positions through an online portal. Currently, DOGE is coordinating federal government layoffs with the established goal of reducing federal bureaucracy, but there is no official record of the total number of layoffs.
