Not just about ‘Satoshi’s coins’: why quantum-resistant cryptography is needed now. Cryptographers have long raised concerns about the rise of quantum computing, and the threats it poses to blockchain security are advancing faster than ever before. After a string of news stories on this, StarkWare’s CEO, @EliBenSasson, has written an optimistic column on the challenge. While we shouldn’t be alarmed by quantum computing, we must take a proactive approach and lead the narrative to secure Bitcoin. These threats can already be mitigated today by integrating quantum-resistant hash functions and leveraging STARKs to establish scalable security measures. We believe that all L2s and bridges should be designed with long-term security in mind; not built on assumptions that may crumble in the future. zkSTARK-based scaling solutions are a perfect way to achieve this and must be central to Bitcoin scaling efforts.
