⚠️ Scam Alert from Anthony Sweeney, CISO at Deribit In recent weeks, we’ve noticed a surge in scammers posing as recruiters claiming to work for Deribit (and likely other well-known firms soon). The crypto industry often pioneers the latest fraud tactics, and this scam is no exception—we expect it to spread to other sectors fast. Please share this warning to help protect others! 👉 How the Scam Works This clever social engineering trick hooks you in two ways: 1. They dangle an irresistible job offer with a sky-high salary. 2. They bank on you keeping your job hunt quiet from your current employer. 👉 Here’s their playbook: Step 1: Scammers set up a LinkedIn profile, claiming to be a recruiter or talent scout for Deribit (or another reputable company). Step 2: They post ads for lucrative roles—often targeting senior staff or developers with access to sensitive systems—and reach out to promising candidates. Step 3: Once they’ve got your attention, the scam branches out: Option A: They ask you to complete an “online assessment” that installs malware on your device. (often used with developers) Option B: They interview you online, offer you a job, and sweeten the deal with “exclusive pre-hire perks” like discounted shares in Company X—only to pocket your money. Option C: They invite you to a location to meet the senior team and sign contracts, in Deribit's case it is an office in LA, we do not currently have a an office in the US. Amongst the list of requirements for the meeting is to bring along your work laptop, another sign of targeting the existing companies device. 👉 How to Protect Yourself - Check the Profile: If it’s a new account with no clear ties to the company they claim to represent, it’s a red flag. - Verify with HR: Even if the profile looks legit, contact the company’s HR department directly (via official channels) and share the recruiter’s profile link to confirm their identity. Stay sharp, and don’t let these scammers catch you off guard. Share this post to keep your network safe! Deribit. Always Open.
