Just when you think things can’t get more insane… they go for it. Now we’ve got the Acting Social Security Commissioner, saying he will *shutdown* Social Security. This is because a judge blocked DOGE from accessing sensitive personal information at the agency. Because DOGE doesn’t formally exist and has many non-direct employees the order includes “DOGE affiliates” So rather than comply with the logical order, the Commissioner (Dudek) is basically holding Social Security ransom and arguing “well all our employees are ‘doge affiliates’ if they share information with them, so I guess I’ve got to shut down everything” The judge can likely solve this with amended carve out language for SSA employees - but this highlights the insane lengths Trump’s admin is willing to go to in order to cede power to Elon, as well as to ignore fair and legal orders of the court. Frankly the judge should just call his bluff. See how well Republicans fair if the Social Security checks stop flowing.
