There is no Planet B. The priority is here because our future depends on protecting our oceans. Today, I met with those who have launched an SOS Ocean to sound the alarm on the urgent need to preserve our blue lung, a treasure of biodiversity. In recent years, we have achieved a lot: we have initiated crucial actions such as banning deep-sea mining and creating new marine protected areas. But the work is far from over. We must accelerate our efforts to: 1. Protect 30% of our oceans by 2030. 2. Put an end to plastic pollution by drastically reducing marine waste. 3. Promote sustainable fishing that respects ecosystems and ensures our food sovereignty. 4. Decarbonize maritime transport by developing clean fuels and electrifying our ports. 5.Strengthen international cooperation for effective ocean governance. 6. Mobilize new funding to build a sustainable blue economy. 7. Bring the International Treaty for the Protection of the High Seas and Marine Biodiversity into force. France has already ratified it. 8. Defend science and support research to better understand our oceans and create the best framework to protect them. We know what needs to be done. Now, it is time to mobilize and engage all stakeholders. I invite all our partners and volunteers to Nice in June for the United Nations Ocean Conference. Together, let’s make this crucial moment a success and ensure a sustainable future for our planet.
