The core operating mechanism of Ethereum can be summarized as a unified 'formal system A'. This system A integrates key functions of blockchain, including centralized account management (maintaining a globally unique world state tree), unified state transition logic (smart contract execution and account updates), unified block generation and verification (transaction packaging, consensus algorithm execution, block validity judgment), and the consensus mechanism itself. This design enables Ethereum to incorporate the core operations of blockchain into a closed, deterministic formal system. It is worth noting that this uniformity endows Ethereum with the attribute of a 'deterministic formal system tool platform'. The behavior of the system is completely determined by internal preset code rules, lacking the emergence and self-organization generated by the interaction of multiple distributed systems like Bitcoin. The code developers of Ethereum client software actually have significant power to change the behavior and rules of the system. This differs significantly from the concept of Bitcoin's multi type formal system emerging as an adaptive nonlinear evolutionary system. In contrast, Bitcoin adopts a multi type distributed formal system, giving rise to adaptive nonlinear complex systems. It distributes functions such as value storage and transfer, human-computer interaction, transaction verification and consensus, computation execution, and economic incentives to different formal systems, and connects them through a distributed consensus mechanism (longest chain). The design goal of Bitcoin is to form a decentralized organism that integrates multiple types of distributed formal systems, emphasizing the robustness and censorship resistance of the system. In summary, Ethereum's design choices have brought higher efficiency and flexibility, but at the cost of sacrificing a certain degree of decentralization and system robustness. It is more like a deterministic tool platform. Compared with the traditional Internet cloud platform system, it only improves data transparency. The difference in design philosophy is the key to understanding the essential differences between Ethereum and Bitcoin.
