Global Payments acquires payment giant Worldpay for $24.3 billion

According to Bloomberg, Global Payments spent $24.25 billion to acquire all shares of payment giant Worldpay, with 45% from FIS and 55% from private equity firm GTCR. As part of the transaction, FIS will acquire Global Payments' issuance solutions business, valued at $13.5 billion. GTCR will complete the sale for 59% cash and 41% stock consideration, and will hold a 15% stake in Global Payments after the merger, continuing to participate in future strategic development. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.
