Dialogue with Arbitrum co-founder Ed Felten: From the White House to blockchain, how does he shape Arbitrum from a long-term perspective?
During the Web3 Carnival in Hong Kong, PANews interviewed Ed Felten, former White House Deputy Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of OffchainLabs.
This scientist, who comes from a Princeton professor background, shared his journey from academic and policy cross-border to blockchain entrepreneurship, as well as his vision for the future direction of Layer 2, Ethereum, and AI integration.
Felten recalled that as early as 2015, he began researching feasible paths for expanding smart contracts. After serving in the White House, Offchain Labs was officially founded in 2018, promoting Arbitrum @ arbitrum_cn as an important force in expanding the Ethereum ecosystem.
Running a startup is like managing a research team, "Felten joked, insisting on polishing technology with a long-term, foundational perspective.
Regarding the questioning of L2's "extraction of Ethereum value," Felten bluntly stated, "L2 is not a competitor, but a component of Ethereum's expansion strategy He emphasized that with the surge in user demand, the existence of L2 is the key to Ethereum maintaining its lead. The fragmentation problem is also being actively improved, and the experience between chains will be seamlessly connected like the Internet in the future.
In terms of technology roadmap selection, Felten believes that Optimal Rollup still has the advantages of simplicity and low cost, but Arbitrarum will also be compatible with ZK verification in the future, balancing performance and security.
In addition to expanding its technology, the self governance of Arbitrum DAO is also seen by Felten as a 'real operational community political experiment'. He emphasized that decentralized governance takes time, but it is precisely this diversity of voices that has forged the vitality of ecology.
When it comes to future trends, Felten believes that the combination of AI and blockchain will give rise to new forms of applications. Machine agents are extremely sensitive to latency, and the low cost and high-speed performance of the chain will become more important. Arbitrarum has explored on chain AI applications and infrastructure.
As for the value of tokens, he remained consistently calm: "Creating real value, traffic, and usage are the fundamental drivers of system growth
From a scientist to an entrepreneur, from a policy advisor to a blockchain evangelist, Felten's every turn is a steadfast commitment to long termism. As he said, "What truly changes the world is not chasing short-term traffic, but focusing on polishing the infrastructure itself
