There is great vibrance in our agricultural sector, from fishing to farming, and we are continuing to drive this momentum with a focus on sustainable agriculture and increased opportunities for our people in the sector. I was pleased to participate in the recently held Caribbean Poultry Association Symposium where we discussed the opportunities within the poultry sector in particular, noting that poultry accounts for more than half of our protein consumption. The sector must therefore be protected and promoted, and this symposium provided a timely platform to explore strategies for resilience, innovation, and growth, not just for large producers, but for small farmers, youth, and agri-entrepreneurs looking to find their place in the industry. We will continue to support and invest in this vital sector, as we build a Jamaica that can feed itself, support its farmers, and proudly stand on its own.
