The US International Trade Court blocks Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs from taking effect, ruling that imposing comprehensive tariffs is beyond its authority

BlockBeats News: On May 29th, the US International Trade Court blocked President Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs from taking effect on Wednesday, ruling that Trump's imposition of comprehensive tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, citing trade deficits and other reasons, was an act beyond his authority. The International Trade Court, headquartered in Manhattan, stated that the US Constitution grants Congress exclusive authority to manage trade with other countries, and the President's international emergency powers to protect the US economy cannot override this authority. This lawsuit, filed by the non partisan Liberty Justice Center on behalf of five American small businesses importing goods from tariff targeted countries, is the first major legal challenge to Trump's tariffs. These companies have all stated that tariffs will damage their business capabilities.
