Gemini accuses CFTC enforcement officers of misconduct in 2022 lawsuit

According to Cointelegraph, cryptocurrency exchange Gemini has accused the enforcement department of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) of misconduct in a lawsuit in 2022. According to a letter submitted by Gemini to the CFTC Inspector General on Friday, the exchange stated that CFTC enforcement officers have filed "suspicious false statement allegations" against it based on "false reports". The incident originated from a report submitted to the CFTC by Benjamin Small, the former operations director of Gemini, after his dismissal in 2017. Gemini claimed that Small was fired for concealing a fraud case involving millions of dollars in kickbacks, and subsequently provided false information to regulatory agencies in retaliation. The CFTC sued Gemini in June 2022, accusing him of making false statements during the application process for Bitcoin futures contracts. In the latest letter, Gemini accuses CFTC enforcement officers of abusing their power in pursuit of personal career development. The exchange expressed its willingness to assist the CFTC in carrying out enforcement reforms and pointed out that acting chairman Caroline Pham has begun to rectify the enforcement department.
