A major sewer infrastructure upgrade is currently underway in Kingston’s Golden Triangle, aimed at modernizing how wastewater is managed in this critical part of the city. This is a vital investment that will serve both existing homes and support future development, while protecting public health and the environment. The project includes the installation of a new gravity-fed trunk sewer main, extending from Matilda’s Corner through to the intersection of Munroe Road and Wellington Avenue. To avoid disrupting major roadways, particularly at busy intersections like Old Hope Road, the National Water Commission is employing trenchless technology, a method typically used in the oil and gas industry to tunnel beneath the surface without excavation. This means we can lay pipes without digging up the road, preserving traffic flow and minimizing public inconvenience. We understand that major works like these often cause disruption. However, I want to assure the public that a multi-agency coordination team, including the NWC, NWA, police, and municipal authorities, has been working carefully to manage traffic and reduce inconvenience. So far, reports from residents have been positive, with no significant complaints or disruptions. This project is a model of how careful planning, stakeholder engagement, and smart engineering can come together to improve the daily lives of Jamaicans.
