Ethereum developers propose halving the block interval time to 6 seconds According to Cointelegraph, Barnab é Monnot, the core developer of Ethereum, recently discussed an improvement proposal for EIP-7782, which aims to reduce block generation time from 12 seconds to 6 seconds. This proposal is planned to be included in the Glamsterdam upgrade by the end of 2026. Technical adjustments include compressing block proposal time from 4 seconds to 3 seconds, reducing verification time from 4 seconds to 1.5 seconds, and overall saving 6 seconds of latency. Analysis indicates that after the acceleration, DeFi transaction confirmation will be more efficient and the arbitrage opportunity window will be shortened, but it may put pressure on network bandwidth and low configuration verification nodes. If implemented successfully, the upper limit of Ethereum Gas is expected to increase threefold, and the supply of blob may reach eight times the current level. At present, the proposal is in the early stages of discussion and requires strict testing to avoid compatibility issues with smart contracts.
