I haven't posted about this in a little while but just a quick update: Core devs recently signaled that a 45 million gas limit is safe for Ethereum L1 and some clients already have this limit as the default. Currently, around ~23% of all Ethereum validators are signaling for a 45 million gas limit. Obviously the plan is to go much further beyond 45 million but it's critical to ensure that raising the gas limit is done safely.
