When we make policy, we give it deep thought. Because we are not just managing numbers, we are managing lives.
You cannot simply say, “Give everyone five hundred thousand dollars more,” without asking the most important question. Where are the houses coming from? A policy like that, if not carefully designed, can drive up the cost of housing and make it even harder for the very people it claims to help.
This is why governance matters. Good intentions are not enough. You need sound judgment, discipline, and a commitment to getting it right.
We have stayed focused on increasing housing supply. That is the hard part. That is what makes homes more affordable. We have negotiated. We have de-risked projects. And we have implemented strategies that address every part of the development process, from land access to labour to affordability.
We are not here to give false hope. We are here to build real homes for real people. And we are doing it with care, with strategy, and with the long-term future of Jamaica in mind.(Andrew Holness)
