This afternoon, I received a positive update from the police operating in the St. Andrew South Division. I’m proud to report that the area has now gone over 15 consecutive days without a single murder, a strong signal that our strategy is working.
Commanding officer, SSP Manderson, explained that this progress is the result of strong police presence, the use of technology, and growing trust between citizens and law enforcement. As public confidence increases, more people are reporting crimes, especially theft and other acquisitive offences. This is exactly the kind of partnership we want to see.
As we approach our National Independence period, known for street dances and parties, the police have been engaging with promoters and community leaders to ensure that events can take place safely. Permits are being issued responsibly, with careful consideration given to each community’s unique situation.
When communities recognize that peace brings economic benefits, they become active guardians of it.
That is the future we are building, one where every citizen helps to protect their neighbourhood.
I commend the police teams and communities in areas like Olympic Gardens, Greenwich Farm, and Penwood for their cooperation and continued commitment to peace. Let us all continue to do our part to make Jamaica safer for all.(Andrew Holness)
