I really didn't expect the urban legend I've been hearing since I started my career: A man in the UK accidentally disposed of a hard drive containing 8000 bitcoins as junk After 12 years, is it still being updated in 2025? He's actually going to issue coins this time 🤦‍♂️ ---Dividing line--- 8000 bitcoins are now worth 900 million US dollars Po was an engineer from Newport, the third largest city in Wales, UK He mistakenly threw away the hard drive carrying Bitcoin for 13 years, resulting in it being buried in a landfill. According to the wiki, various methods have been attempted, including communicating with the city council, distributing money to the entire city, collaborating with hedge funds, hiring black box search experts, introducing mechanical dogs and drones, filming documentaries, and even suing the city council. This time we issued coins (not to say that I am optimistic, just shocked), tokenized 1/5 of Bitcoin and raised funds, and finally used the funds to buy the garbage dump. In fact, I think this matter is somewhat feasible, much stronger than the previous one that raised funds to buy computing power to crack Satoshi Nakamoto's private key. But it is still unclear about (1) valuation and (2) transparency. For example, for a book, if a search expert finds it and secretly hides it, it's 8000 bitcoins, and no one can resist this temptation. It is still unclear how the money will be spent and whether there is any obstruction from the city council. PS: This garbage inspirational chicken soup picture is actually so suitable for use here 😂🤦‍♂️
