Options market activity skyrocketing: 3-month average volumes of US equity call options has reached ~34 million contracts, near an all-time high. Call options volume has TRIPLED over the last 5 years. At the same time, the 3-month average volume of equity put options has fallen from a record 26 million in April to ~23 million. On Friday alone, total options volume reached a massive 71 million contracts. Year-to-date, an average of 58 million contracts have exchanged hands every trading day.
