Powell's sidekick Nick started warming things up ahead of tonight's Jackson Hole meeting speech. He shared an article from The Wall Street Journal, and the theme of the article is the conflict of opinions between the Boston Fed President and the Cleveland Fed President. Clearly, the goal is to convey the current divisions and dilemmas within the Fed to the market, which are:
Cutting rates too early → second wave of inflation;
Cutting rates too late → nonlinear decline in employment.
Among them, Boston Fed President Collins' preventive strategy has gained more support, meaning if future data supports 'substantial weakening in the labor market + inflation cooling,' then the previous strategy would be adjusted (hinting at rate cuts).
