[Hong Kong SFC: Beware of Fraudsters Impersonating Executives to Send Phishing Emails and Launch Attacks]
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has warned the public to be vigilant against fraudsters impersonating the SFC to carry out scams. The agency has discovered that fraudsters are posing as certain senior management members of the SFC and well-known stock commentators, using phishing emails and forged documents to contact the public. This includes impersonating Mr. Christopher Wilson, Executive Director of Enforcement, to send fraudulent emails in an attempt to install malware or ransomware on the recipient's computer system, as well as impersonating Mr. Andy Wen, Chief Financial Officer of the SFC, to send phishing emails under the guise of a "data verification procedure" to extract recipients' contact information. Targets include SFC-licensed corporations and their employees. The Hong Kong SFC emphasizes that all such messages and claims are false and urges the public to exercise heightened caution when handling communications from unknown sources.
