[Ethereum Foundation Chairperson: Ethereum is Helping Build a Safer National Identity System] Live report from Jinse Finance: On August 26, at the WebX2025 event held in Japan, Ethereum Foundation Chairperson Aya Miyaguchi stated that traditional national identity systems relying on government frameworks face risks, such as centralized storage of citizen information being vulnerable to deletion or tampering during external attacks. Taking Bhutan as an example, the country is creating a decentralized national ID system and migrating to Ethereum, leveraging blockchain's resistance to attacks to ensure the security of citizen identity information. In Japan, although the current My Number card (Japan's version of a citizen ID) operates in a centralized model, some teams are already exploring its use to create small wallets and investigate decentralized identity applications. She emphasized that Ethereum provides the possibility for anyone to participate in the development of national identity systems, helping to break the limitations of traditional models and build a more resilient, private, and secure identity system, driving transformative changes in societal operations.
