Over 660 roads are currently being rehabilitated across Jamaica under the SPARK programme, which has expanded from a road initiative into a comprehensive road-and-water programme.
In the next term, we will launch SPARK 2, committing to another 660 road projects across the island. These will not be quick fixes, they will be total rehabilitation of the community and town roads that connect Jamaicans to highways and public transportation routes.
As part of this effort, we are ensuring that rehabilitation includes bus stops, taxi stands, transportation centres, sidewalks, upgraded water mains, and conduits for telecommunications and fibre optic cables.
Additionally, in partnership with the United Kingdom, 48 critical bridges are being repaired, works that are already underway and will be visible in the next term.(Andrew Holness)
