[U.S. Group Chat Leak Host Officially Begins Duties at the United Nations]
According to Golden Finance, on September 21, the United States' newly appointed Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Michael Waltz, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York, officially commencing his duties. The 51-year-old Waltz is the first National Security Advisor since Trump assumed the U.S. presidency for the second time this January. He has been highly controversial due to his involvement in the 'group chat leak' incident in March of this year. On May 1, Trump announced on social media his nomination of Waltz as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, with Secretary of State Rubio temporarily acting as National Security Advisor. On September 19 local time, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Waltz as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Earlier this year, during his Senate confirmation hearing, Waltz emphasized that the Trump administration's 'priorities' for UN policy include promoting UN reform, reviewing UN funding, and eradicating what he called 'anti-Semitism' within UN institutions.
