[Sources: White House Considering Jill Sommers and Kyle Hauptman as Candidates for CFTC Chair] According to crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett, sources indicate that the White House is considering nominating former CFTC Commissioner Jill Sommers and National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Board Member Kyle Hauptman as candidates for the position of CFTC Chair. Sommers previously worked for 10 years at Patomak Global Partners, a consulting firm led by former SEC Chair Paul Atkins, who is said to be a close friend of hers. Hauptman is the 13th Chairman of the National Credit Union Administration and formerly served as Senior Vice President at investment bank Jefferies, where he was responsible for U.S. Treasury and futures trading. Both individuals are reportedly supportive of cryptocurrency. Previously, Bloomberg reported last week that the U.S. government had restarted its candidate review process, including reviewing SEC’s Mike Selig and Treasury’s Tyler Williams, as Brian Quintenz’s nomination confirmation remains stalled. This week, Semafor added that Josh Sterling, an attorney at law firm Milbank, is also among the candidates.
