The United Nations recently released a white paper stating that its pension fund has adopted blockchain technology to verify the identity and living status of over 70,000 pensioners across 190 countries, replacing traditional paper-based processes. The system was piloted as early as 2020 and officially deployed in 2021, developed in collaboration between the United Nations International Computing Centre and the Hyperledger Foundation. The report highlights that blockchain-supported 'digital certificates of entitlement' have significantly improved processing efficiency and transparency, reduced human errors and payment disruptions, and avoided single points of failure in centralized systems.
