OpenAI Will Allow Users to Shop Directly Through ChatGPT

BlockBeats reported on September 30 that OpenAI will allow ChatGPT users to shop directly through its popular AI chatbot without leaving the platform. The company stated on Monday that U.S. users will be able to purchase items from local sellers on the e-commerce platform Etsy, as well as products from certain Shopify merchants, within ChatGPT. The service, named "Instant Checkout," currently supports the purchase of single items only. OpenAI has also released an open-source technical standard called the "Agentic Commerce Protocol," enabling merchants to integrate their products with ChatGPT for direct sales within the chatbot. The company hopes to attract more merchants to join the ChatGPT platform through this initiative. However, OpenAI noted that the two major U.S. digital retailers, Amazon and Walmart, have not yet adopted the protocol. (Jin10)
