TREE has huge news, but the Chinese market barely seems to be talking about it. Let’s start with the facts: On September 25, Treehouse teamed up with FalconX to launch the first Ethereum Staking Rate Forward Agreement (TESR FRA). Now let’s break it down step by step 1/ Who is FalconX? Here’s a quick summary of FalconX: First, it’s an institutional crypto trading platform with an $8 billion valuation and $430 million in total funding. Second, it’s backed by top-tier institutions like Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, B Capital, and Tiger Global. Additionally, FalconX is a CFTC-registered swap dealer with compliance credentials on par with traditional finance. They have the capability to bring crypto derivatives to mainstream institutional markets. 2/ Why is this such a big deal? Since Ethereum’s merge, staking yields have become the network’s “native interest rate.” But the problem is, this rate fluctuates. For institutions managing billions of dollars, this uncertainty equals risk. In traditional finance, we have benchmark rates like LIBOR and SOFR, which underpin massive derivatives markets. The crypto world has been missing this infrastructure—until now. TESR offers a solution: Institutions can lock in future staking yields Hedge against the risk of staking yield declines Or speculate on staking yield increases How big is the potential for this product? Looking at traditional finance, interest rate derivatives are one of the largest financial markets. Now, the crypto market finally has its own “yield curve,” enabling the creation of: Interest rate swaps Structured yield products More complex fixed-income tools 3/ How is the market reacting? A range of leading institutional investors and hedge funds—including Algoquant, August, Edge Capital, Monarq, Gallet Capital, LeadBlock, BitPanda, MEV Capital, Mirana, Moonvault, RockawayX, Wave Digital Assets, and JPEG Trading—have either participated in or expressed interest in trading the newly launched forward rate agreement market. These aren’t small players. Edge Capital manages billions in assets, and Monarq is a top-tier crypto quant fund. Their involvement shows this product is addressing real needs. Even more importantly, this isn’t just a one-off proof of concept—it’s a live, continuously operating market. Next, we’re likely to see even more derivative innovations built around TESR.
