The proportion of stock investors to the total population in various countries and regions. 'Stock investors' include those who directly hold stocks as well as those who indirectly hold stocks through insurance or pensions. The top spot goes to the United States, with a 55% stock market participation rate—over 180 million out of 300 million Americans are in the stock market. In most major developed countries, this ratio is between 20-30%. Mainland China’s proportion is only about 7%, on par with India. Half of Americans' wealth is in the stock market, so it’s no surprise that Trump treated the stock market as a KPI.
