It's pretty funny when I think about it—I don't have a strong desire for material things, but I do tend to splurge in certain areas. Before I started working, I spent all my money on buying manga. My collection at home could probably be measured in tons. Every month, I would scrimp and save just to buy more manga to read. Later, I got into buying gaming consoles. The unique thing about China is that consoles are expensive, but games are cheap. When I was younger, I also played online games and spent quite a few 648s on them. But one day, I suddenly had an epiphany. Now, the only mobile game I still have is Pokémon, and even then, I’m too lazy to spend money on it anymore. I also play a few single-player games, which are one-time purchases and don’t require ongoing spending. As for manga, I’ve almost completely switched to digital versions and rarely buy physical copies anymore. I’ve bought a ton of games on Steam and for the Switch, but most of them are still unopened. That’s probably the most wasteful spending I’ve done—adding up to a few thousand dollars. Not a huge amount, though. When it comes to clothing, food, housing, and transportation, I don’t have many demands. I don’t even spend one ETH on clothes in a year. For food, I often just eat at hawker centers (you can see this on my Xiaohongshu). As for housing, I’m currently renting a regular apartment in Singapore. My daily commute is mostly by MRT, except during Token2049 when I took more taxis. Normally, a few hundred SGD a month is enough for transportation. My biggest expense is probably travel, mainly flights and hotels. But even then, it doesn’t average out to more than 10% of my annual income. So, in terms of spending, I really don’t spend much and would say I have pretty low material desires. Oh, and there’s drinking, but most of the time I’m just freeloading off Kan Ge, so if you round it off, it’s basically free. Other than that, I don’t really have any personal expenses.
