[Goldman Sachs Expects U.S. Initial Jobless Claims to Rise to 235,000]
Due to the federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of Labor did not release the weekly unemployment report. Based on state-level data, Goldman Sachs estimates that initial jobless claims for the week ending October 4 increased to 235,000, up from 224,000 the previous week. Meanwhile, the number of continuing unemployment benefit claims slightly rose to 1.92 million. Goldman Sachs analyzed the data using seasonal adjustment factors and estimated figures for certain states.
