[Canaan Launches 2.5MW Bitcoin Mining Pilot Project in Canada to Utilize Stranded Natural Gas]
According to TheMinerMag, Canaan and Canada-based Aurora AZ Energy have announced the launch of a 2.5MW off-grid Bitcoin mining facility in Calgary, Alberta. The project converts 'stranded gas' from oil wells into electricity to power mining operations, deploying 700 Avalon A15 Pro units with an estimated value exceeding $2 million. The project promises approximately 90% uptime and electricity costs below the industry average. Canaan stated that its self-operated hashrate reached 9.3 EH/s as of September and secured U.S. orders for over 50,000 A15 Pro units last month, totaling more than 10 EH/s. The two parties plan to replicate this model in other regions with associated gas/vented gas to address centralized grid constraints and meet localized energy demands for AI/HPC.
