[Chair of the Basel Committee: Stablecoin Boom May Drive Review of Cryptocurrency Regulatory Rules] BlockBeats News, October 16, according to Bloomberg, the Chair of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision stated on Wednesday that the rapid growth of stablecoins could prompt global policymakers to reassess new banking capital standards for crypto assets. 'The current focus is on stablecoins,' said Erik Thedéen, who also serves as the Governor of Sweden's central bank, during a conference. However, he noted that when policymakers formulated new capital rules for crypto assets in 2022, stablecoins were not a 'core focus.' These rules set standardized risk weights for banks holding crypto assets and are scheduled to take effect in 2026. Thedéen stated, 'This is one of the reasons why we may need to discuss and evaluate further.'
