[CBOE Seeks to Extend Options Trading Hours, Paving the Way for 24-Hour Trading Era]
According to a report by Golden Finance, Cboe Global Markets, the operator of the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), is seeking to extend options trading hours, pushing the U.S. market further toward 'overnight trading.' According to the documents, the company has proposed adding trading hours outside the regular trading session (9:30 AM to 4:00 PM New York time). If approved, CBOE will introduce an early trading session from 7:30 AM to 9:25 AM and a post-market session from 4:00 PM to 4:15 PM. U.S. stock exchange operators are attempting to extend trading hours to align with overseas demand, and CBOE is one of the first derivatives exchanges to propose such adjustments, signaling that the options market is moving toward synchronizing trading hours with the stock market. The documents indicate that CBOE plans to extend trading hours only for certain categories of stock options, depending on trading volume, market capitalization, and activity levels. This expansion will be limited to specific contracts and will be conducted as a small-scale pilot before and after regular trading hours.
