The flooding in Hualien, Taiwan, this time is really severe. I couldn’t be there as a ‘Shovel Hero’ due to personal matters and some health issues, so I could only contribute a little by donating money and supplies. Binance Charity Foundation (Binance Charity) announced a donation of 100,000 USDT to the disaster relief foundation to assist with rescue efforts, and another 100,000 USDT was allocated to the ‘Shovel Hero’ rescue team as a subsidy. This initiative was launched in collaboration between Binance Charity and the Blockchain Enthusiasts Association, with a total project fund of 117,210 USDT (equivalent to over 3.5 million TWD). The fund includes contributions from multiple organizations and individuals, and all the funds will ultimately be donated to the official disaster relief foundation for rebuilding the disaster-stricken areas and assisting residents. It’s worth mentioning that this is the first time in Taiwan that a Crypto → TWD conversion model has been used for large-scale charitable donations. Since the disaster relief foundation under the government in Taiwan currently cannot directly accept cryptocurrency, this collaboration completed the conversion under a compliant framework. It has paved a new path for ‘virtual assets entering the public charity system.’ We hope that in the future, Taiwan will have more legal channels to enable donations using virtual currencies.
