I thank the European Union and all member states for adopting the strong 19th sanctions package. This is a demonstration of European unity at a time when Russia is escalating the war and intensifying strikes on civilians. The restrictions target exactly those things that help Moscow continue this war: the oil and gas sector, the shadow fleet, and the defense-industrial complex. For the first time, sanctions have been applied to crypto platforms and cryptocurrency schemes that Russia exploits to circumvent restrictions. It is crucial that the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States act in sync to ramp up pressure on Russia and bring the peace we all need closer.
