From my perspective, x402 feels just like the AI agent wave on Sol last year. The difference is that payments don’t have the same viral potential as AI agents paired with large models spouting nonsense. In terms of content virality, the goat ones are definitely better, plus Sol is intentionally supporting memes. But liquidity is much worse compared to back then. At least during that time, multiple chains were taking turns. Now it’s just BSC and Base battling it out. In crypto, the usual approach is to quickly wrap something up and launch an application. It’s very similar to how Chinese developers make apps while Americans focus on protocols. Once a protocol is out, crypto applications are launched super fast—sometimes even faster than Chinese companies going global with internet products. Even though everyone knows it won’t have long-term viability, it still creates hype and speculation.
