[World's First Yen Stablecoin Officially Issued in Japan Today] According to a report by Golden Finance, Japanese startup JPYC has announced the issuance of a fully convertible yen-backed stablecoin, supported by domestic savings and Japanese government bonds. Last week, Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino stated that stablecoins could become key participants in the global payment system, partially replacing the role of bank deposits. JPYC will initially waive transaction fees to expand usage and generate revenue through interest from holding Japanese government bonds. Tomoyuki Shimoda, a scholar at Rikkyo University and former central bank executive, believes that the widespread adoption of yen stablecoins in Japan will take at least 2-3 years.
