[Microsoft to Hold Approximately $135 Billion or 27% Stake in OpenAI]
Microsoft (MSFT.O) surged 4.6% in pre-market trading after signing a new agreement with OpenAI. OpenAI has committed to purchasing an additional $250 billion worth of Azure services, and Microsoft will hold approximately $135 billion or 27% of OpenAI's shares.
Microsoft (MSFT.O) stated its support for OpenAI's establishment as a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC). Microsoft retains intellectual property rights and exclusive rights to the Azure API until AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is achieved. OpenAI can now provide API access to clients in the U.S. government’s national security sector, regardless of the cloud service provider they use. OpenAI is also now able to release open-weight models that meet the necessary capability standards.
