I had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz earlier today. We noted our strong and enduring cordial relations, and agreed to continue strengthening them. I thanked the German Government for supporting the expansion of our energy generation efforts with a €45 million (KSh6.6 billion) facility.
Additionally, we discussed the implementation of the bilateral labour agreement that our two countries signed, giving more Kenyans opportunities to work in Germany.
In our conversation, we underscored the growing trade and investment ties between Africa and Europe, and agreed that the upcoming EU-Africa Summit in Luanda, Angola, will be a befitting platform to strengthen our relationship.
On peace and security in our region, especially in Somalia, Sudan and Eastern DRC, we emphasised the urgency of ending the conflicts and the role Germany can play in this endeavour.(William Samoei Ruto, PhD)
