[U.S. Supreme Court: Trump Administration Can Continue Withholding Food Aid Funds] The U.S. Supreme Court has decided to extend the suspension of a local judge's order that required the Trump administration to fully distribute funds for the "Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program" (SNAP) in November. This action by the Supreme Court allows the Trump administration to continue withholding approximately $4 billion in SNAP funds. Due to a lack of funds, the SNAP program has suspended aid distribution starting November 1. As a key component of the U.S. social security system, SNAP covers 42 million people, roughly one-eighth of the total U.S. population, most of whom have incomes below the poverty line. The program spends over $8 billion monthly. Reportedly, this marks the first time in SNAP's 60-year history that aid distribution has been halted, even during previous federal government shutdowns.
