If a normal bank were to lose $240 billion from bad decisions on their assets, they would go bankrupt. When the Fed does it, they just defer the losses forever. The Fed used to have to send it's profits to the US Treasury. They have to dig out of their $240 billion hole now.(Wall Street Mav)
