It is an amazing achievement that 5 weeks after the third strongest hurricane ever in history to hit Jamaica directly, we have been able to restore electricity to approximately 84% of customers nationally and approximately 40% of the most impacted parishes. We know that at Christmas the inconvenience of not having electricity is even greater, particularly for the people of Westmoreland where 80% of customers are without electricity because of the extensive damage to the grid. This is why the Government of Jamaica took the conscientious decision to facilitate expedited access to financing so that our people can get electricity in the shortest possible time. Our actions have secured the dispatch of hundreds of linesmen and their equipment to assist in the rapid restoration of service. In a few more weeks there will be light!(Andrew Holness)
