[EU Orders Platform X to Preserve Chatbot Data Until Year-End]
According to CCTV reports, on the 8th, European Commission spokesperson Thomas Renier stated that the European Commission has ordered the U.S. social media platform X to retain all internal documents and data related to its built-in chatbot 'Grok' until the end of 2026. 'Grok' was developed by xAI, an artificial intelligence company under U.S. entrepreneur Elon Musk, and is integrated into Musk's social media platform X. Recently, some users on Platform X have been using 'Grok' to edit images and videos, with some generating fake explicit content of real individuals and spreading it on Platform X. Victims include hundreds of adult women and minors. Renier said that the European Commission takes this issue 'very seriously' and has decided to extend the 'data retention' requirement issued to Platform X in 2025. This requirement previously focused primarily on information related to platform algorithms and the dissemination of illegal content. On the 4th, Platform X responded to the controversy, stating that it would take action against illegal content on the platform, including removing such content, permanently banning accounts, and cooperating with local governments and law enforcement when necessary.
