Recently saw a post on Reddit that’s seriously thought-provoking. A backend engineer from a food delivery platform revealed that there’s something called a ‘Despair Index’ behind the platform’s algorithm. Basically, the more hardworking and dependent full-time delivery riders are on the platform for survival, the more likely they’ll be tagged by the system as ‘high loyalty’ or ‘cheap labor,’ which results in them missing out on high-value orders. Meanwhile, those casual riders who only log in occasionally get rewarded with premium orders. What’s even crazier is that this ‘exploitation’ logic doesn’t just target riders—it also applies to customers. For services like ‘priority delivery,’ the platform deliberately slows down regular orders, using psychological tactics to make you believe paying extra will get your order faster. And most of those rush fees end up in the platform’s pocket. This got me thinking: Web3 advocates for fairness and transparency, but if labor data is controlled by centralized platforms, will ordinary workers ever have a chance to turn things around? Do you think blockchain or decentralized models could change this situation? Drop your thoughts in the comments! #Thoughts #PersonalGrowth #Web3 #Algorithms
