Minister Matthew Samuda has confirmed that water restoration depends heavily on electricity, since most systems require power to operate. Once light is restored, water usually follows within a few days.
Currently, 93.5% of NWC customers are back in water. Most remaining challenges are in western parishes, particularly St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover and St. James, mainly in elevated and remote communities.
The Roaring River system, the last major system affected, is expected to be restored now, which should return water to over 30,000 residents, including Darliston and surrounding communities, within 24–36 hours.
Water trucking will continue, especially for small rural districts, and parish councils will receive additional support while longer-term improvements to rural water systems are planned.(Andrew Holness)
