[US Media: The US House of Representatives Successfully Overcomes Procedural Hurdle, Taking a Key Step Toward Ending the Shutdown]
Jin10 News, February 4 – According to The Wall Street Journal, on Tuesday, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives narrowly overcame a critical hurdle, taking an important step toward ending the partial government shutdown. The House passed a procedural measure by a vote of 217 to 215, paving the way for the final vote on the government funding bill, which is scheduled for later Tuesday evening.
The measure advanced after increased internal disputes within the Republican Party, as several lawmakers initially voted "against" or abstained. The bill allocates $1.2 trillion in budget funding for major federal departments, including the Pentagon and the Department of Health and Human Services.
Funding for the Department of Homeland Security will remain at current levels until February 13, with this provision listed separately to allow lawmakers more time to negotiate new immigration enforcement restrictions demanded by Democrats.
