[Bank of America Report: AI May Threaten $15 Billion in Insurance Industry Commission Revenue]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on March 4, the latest report from Bank of America Global Research warned that over $15 billion in insurance industry commissions face significant risks of disintermediation due to artificial intelligence. The report pointed out that digital agents powered by large language models can effectively replace most of the work done by 20,000 to 30,000 independent agents in the U.S., particularly in low-complexity transactions such as standard home and auto insurance. Analysts studied six major insurance companies, including Travelers and Progressive, and found that a substantial proportion of the commissions these companies are expected to pay to independent agents in 2025 comes from low-complexity business.
